The 2014-15 season at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University includes more than 30 events and features music and dance from across the United States and around the world. Six performances are free. All events are open to the public.

The 33 events include world music, blues, bluegrass, modern dance, jazz, classical, multimedia presentations, Americana/folk, and a Family Discovery Series.

The season will kick-off on Friday, Sept. 5, at 6 p.m. with a free outdoor concert on the Weis Center Plaza by Slavic Soul Party, a Balkan brass band from New York City.

Slavic Soul Party is characterized by fiery Balkan brass, throbbing funk grooves, Gypsy accordion wizardry and virtuoso jazz chops. The nine musicians have created an acoustic mash-up of Balkan and Gypsy sounds with North American music, weaving the gospel, funk, dub, jazz and Latin influences of New York's neighborhoods seamlessly into a Balkan brass setting and always "delivering a great time," according to the New York Times.

Kathryn Maguet, executive director of the Weis Center, says of the season, "We bring these amazing artists to Central Pennsylvania to do more than perform. Our goal is to build bridges in our community and to set the stage for the powerful exchange of ideas.

"We create opportunities for patrons to touch an artist's creative spirit and equally important, for the artists to learn from audience members. We know that these experiences touch us in ways we don't know, at times when we least expect it, with an effect we might not realize for days, weeks or even years."
