Bienvenue!

Welcome to Bucknell’s French and Francophone Studies Program. French is arguably the most useful second language, spoken on a daily basis by over 125 million people in 40 countries on every continent. Classes in the French program will enhance your experience at Bucknell and expand your opportunities after college. The study of French as part of a major, a minor, or a well-rounded liberal arts education, will allow you to not only learn other cultures, compete in business, or prepare for careers in research, but also give you the critical thinking, writing, and speaking tools you will need beyond Bucknell.

We offer exciting courses in French and Francophone language, literatures, cultures, and societies. As a student in our program, you will benefit from small class sizes and close collaboration with our dynamic faculty. Our professors combine their expertise in the literatures, cultures and societies of contemporary France, Francophone Africa, Quebec and the Caribbean with innovative pedagogies that make the best use of current technologies and multimedia.

French at Bucknell extends beyond the classroom. Each semester, visiting scholars from France and the US come to campus to share their research and insight. Every spring semester the program puts on a festival of recent French film. The French Club organizes weekly activities including films, excursions, dinners, and parties.

Finally, you can experience France on a daily basis through our Bucknell en France program in Tours, France. You will live with a host family, take courses at the Université François Rabelais, visit major sites in France such as Paris and the Normandy Beaches, and enjoy the student life in this dynamic city.
