The Campus Greening Initiative of the Bucknell University Environmental Center represents a long-term effort to promote environmental literacy within the campus community and demonstrate best practices in environmental sustainability. This initiative engages students, faculty, and staff in projects that study the University’s ecological footprint, and provides hands-on opportunities to explore such current topics as renewable energy, organic gardening, and stream restoration.

The Campus Greening Initiative seeks to establish curricular and applied programming that employs all dimensions of the University campus as an interdisciplinary learning environment. In the process, the initiative works in partnership with the Provost's Office, Facilities, Dining, the Bucknell Environmental Club, and many other departments and organizations to promote a systemic transformation to a sustainable culture.

Campus Greening Initiative objectives:

  • Research: Support student-centered research and analysis that contributes to the increased ecological, economic, and social sustainability of the University.
  • Teaching: Facilitate the integration of sustainability thoughout the curriculum, and provide experiential learning opportunities focused human connections to the natural world.
  • Institutional transformation: Provide direction and leadership to collaborative campus sustainability projects by creating linkages among curricular, administrative, and operational units across campus.
  • Outreach: Support outreach activities focused on sustainability education and action at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
