In Italian 102, students practice oral skills through dialogues and conversations. At the end of the term they are tested in the form of one skit and a final oral exam. The skit is performed in groups of two or three without the use of note cards or written prompts and consists of a dramatization of an original fable written by the group members. The skit offers students the chance to revisit the themes studied throughout the term and to express their creativity. Kenia Lobo and Connor Hayes completed the following skit as a final project for Italian 102 in Fall 2011. Their skit was part of a class competition and received the highest number of votes.
Kenia Lobo is a first-year student majoring in biology and pre-med, and is pursuing a minor in Italian. She is interested in Italian because she wants to visit Italy in the future and volunteer in an Italian hospital. She likes the Italian culture, and she thinks it is also important to have an understanding of many languages in the medical field. Kenia is bilingual (she speaks Spanish and English) and hopes one day to be fluent in Italian.
Connor Hayes is a first-year student majoring in economics. He first started studying Italian in the second grade because his mother is Italian and she always wanted him and his siblings to learn the language. He was immediately interested in the Italian language and culture and enjoyed learning Italian. He has been taking Italian ever since
