Speak UP Bucknell is a peer education group supervised and coordinated by the Interpersonal Violence Prevention Coordinator. This group of student volunteers is responsible for a number of prevention, education, and awareness campaigns on campus, including our prevention education workshops, awareness events such as Take Back the Night and the Red Flag Campaign, and our Fraternity and Sorority Ally training program.

Speak UP's education and awareness programs emphasize the positive bystander model, which assumes everyone has a role to play in ending sexual violence on campus. The programs and presentations offered by Speak UP Bucknell cover a range of topics such as sexual misconduct (including sexual assault), relationship violence, and stalking as well as consent and healthy relationships.

Helping a Victim-Survivor

When victim-survivors disclose their sexually violent experience, it is important to serve as a positive bystander and source of support as they work through their reactions to the trauma. It is important to remember that a victim-survivor disclosed their assault because they trust you.

If you see something, say something.

Positive bystanders are individuals who witness emergencies or situations that could lead to criminal events and choose to intervene and prevent the situation from escalating.

The bystander approach to sexual violence prevention puts the responsibility of stopping sexual violence on the community, rather than on the victim-survivor.
