There is no pre-medical major at Bucknell University. You may major in any field of study that you choose as long as you also complete the 12 required pre-requisite courses for medical school listed below.
2 Biology Courses with Lab—more preparation in Biology is recommended if possible
2 General Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry with Lab
2 Organic Chemistry with Lab
2 Physics with Lab
2 Math Courses – Calculus I and II or Calculus I and Statistics I, or higher level courses
2 English Courses—1 composition course and 1 literature course…most schools will allow a letter from the Bucknell University Registrar office explaining the W2 courses to fill the composition requirement
Other Classes that are not required but often recommended include Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology
To apply to Medical School all you need are these 12 courses. However, you need to have finished your Biology, Chemistry, Physics courses before you take the MCAT exam. Please advise both your Academic adviser and Pre-health adviser when planning your course schedule in order to ensure that you will meet both your major requirements and pre-health requirements before your projected graduation date.
Below are links to Academic Departments which list the required courses for the major. Common majors include Biology, Neuroscience, Chemistry, and Biomedical Engineering, however you may choose to major in mathematics, physics, humanities etc. if you choose to do so.
