Since the first Brigade trip, additional Brigades have traveled twice each year to Nicaragua to volunteer service. Reverend Oliver, Janice Butler, Director of Bucknell's Office of Service-Learning, and Dr. Don Stechschulte, Director of the Student Health Service, have coordinated the efforts, along with many faculty and student volunteers. In January of 2000, the second Brigade spent one week digging latrines in the community of Nueva Vida.

In March of 2000, another Brigade began work on the first permanent medical clinic in the developing community of 15,000. This facility was largely funded by donations made through the Bucknell Brigade, Lewisburg community, and project supporters.

Bucknell President Steffen Rogers and his wife Athena joined the group in Nicaragua to help dedicate the new clinic. In addition, to assisting with construction on the clinic, Brigades have supported microenterprise efforts by helping to build a facility to house a new worker-owned sewing cooperative that employs women from Nueva Vida, and a new volunteer dormitory for our host agency.

Last year's delegation worked on finishing the walls of the new women's health facility next to the Nueva Vida Clinic. The new building will have the exam rooms, a birthing room, a post-partum room, a waiting area and 2 bathrooms with showers. Public health education pre- and post -natal care will be provided to women in the community.

In 2005, the Bucknell volunteers did electrical wiring in the women's facility, helped insulate the storage room for medicines, began a patio at the health compound, and started digging for a septic system at the women's sewing co-op.

May 2006 had the Brigade again in Nueva Vida working at the health clinic, painting, and mixing concrete in an effort to improve the living conditions of the villagers.
