In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service. Bucknell will be celebrating Martin Luther King Jr's legacy of bringing about change through good works with various service opportunties.

Below are some of the service completed during February 2013 for Black History Month.




Wednesday, January 23rd at 5:30 p.m. in the Terrace Room

Spring Semester Community Service Fair: Come and see local agencies and their volunteer opportunities

Each Saturday morning at 9;00 a.m. starting on January 26th through out February

Help clean up and recycle around 6th and 7th streets.


Assist the Lewisburg Area Recreational Authority with trail clean up

Saturday, February 9th from 1:00-5:00 pm

Cleaning assistance at the Sunbury YMCA

Tuesday, February 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the Terrace Room

Make Black History educational items for the Milton School District

Wednesday, February 27th at 3:45-4:45 p.m. at Essex Place*

Assist in facilitating an educational workshop at Essex Place

Thursday, February 28th at 3:45-4:45 p.m. at Meadowview*

Assist in facilitating an educational workshop at Meadowview

Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in the Terrace Room

Make no-sew fleece blankets for the Red Cross

Throughout the month of February

Donate blood at local American Red Cross Blood Drives

Each Tuesday night as the Bucknell Bookstore (Community Room)

Play scrabble with members from the Area Agency on Aging

 * note these events are off campus and transportation is available



Other offices that are planning activities to celebrate MLK and Black History Month include the Griot Institute and Multicultural Student Services.
