Dr. Simmons Duncan is a licensed professional counselor who received her doctoral degree from the Pennsylvania State University in Clinical Psychology.
Shallary has worked in college counseling centers for over twenty-five years. Her approach to counseling builds on the therapeutic relationship where compassion, respect, trust, and genuineness are valued. Ascertaining what approach works best for students emerges within the context of understanding the student's needs and their "life story." Creating self-awareness and hope are fundamental for growth. Ultimately, it is the counseling relationship that promotes change.
In collaboration with Multicultural Student Services, Shallary is the co-director of the Together Everyone Achieves More (T.E.A.M.) peer mentor program which is a year-long transition program aimed to support first year students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.
