Dietary Needs, Food Information, and Health Restrictions or Health Accommodations

Please fill out the waiver and medical disclosure. It will ask you about your food restrictions. All food is provided starting the afternoon of the first day of the experience. That day we will provide snacks and dinner. The remaining days we will provide breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. On the final day before new student orientation begins we will be providing breakfast. The first university meal is lunch on the first day of new student orientation.    

You know your body best and how to fuel it. You are more than welcome and encouraged to bring additional snacks that suit your dietary needs. If you have specific dietary needs please indicate those needs on the medical disclosure form that you receive on the confirmation email upon registration. If you have allergies please indicate the seriousness of your allergy on those forms. This helps us accommodate the entire team's food if you have a serious food allergies. If you failed to indicate this information on the medical form or if something changes before BuckWild begins, please contact the Director of the Outdoor Education & Leadership so the necessary arrangements can be made. Requests should be made by August 1, 2017 to ensure your needs can be met.

If for some reason you have a health related concern that mandates you are placed on a specific trip or you need special accommodations please reach out to the Director. Again, on the medical disclosure form please indicate the seriousness of your health issue so we can accommodate to the best of our ability. We can discuss options and decide what would be a best fit for you.

Your medical disclosure information is confidential and only shared with the Director and your specific trip leaders. This information is important when planning the curriculum of the experience. Our student leaders are trained in Wilderness First Aid at a minimum. Most have Wilderness First Responder Certifications, and a few are Wilderness EMT's. They are trained to manage many health related issues in the backcountry.

Moving Onto Campus and Arriving to Campus

Langone Center

Keys will be available to pick up on Friday, August 11, 2017 between 7:00 AM and 11:30 AM in the first floor of the Langone Center (corner of 7th and Moore Avenue.  Parking is available along Moore Avenue.  All pre-orientation programs will be checking in at this location.  You can move in during that time frame, try to come early to get organized and fed prior to the start time.  From there you can head to your residence hall room and move in.   All the pre-orientation leaders and Resident Assistants will be available to help with the move in process, please allow them to help it will speed up your move in process.  The BuckWild experience will start at 12:30 pm in the WEIS Center.  You will receive a detailed daily itinerary upon arrival that day.  Please plan accordingly for breakfast and lunch.

If there are extenuating circumstances, such as traveling alone, flying from the west coast, or international flights, and you need accommodations, please call the Director of Outdoor Education & Leadership. Each concern will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Card Services does provide some shuttles to and from certain airports on that day. Please contact Card Services or Housing for shuttle or housing accommodation questions or concerns.

Communication on and During the Experience

It is the participant's responsibility to let family and friends know that they will be out of communication during the experience (August 11 @ 2pm until August 15 @ 10 pm-ish). If there are family emergencies, your family member(s) must call the Campus Switchboard at 570-577-2000. The Campus Switchboard will then get in touch with the Director of Outdoor Education & Leadership. The Director will know how to get in touch with each team in the field. Each situation will be resolved as quickly as possible. Participants are not allowed to drive themselves to and from the trailhead. This is a group experience and the participant must be with the group, in school vehicles for the entirety of the program. The university is liable if participants drive themselves.
