My Externship experience:
My externship was at L'Oreal (Maybelline, Garnier, essie) at the company headquarters in New York City. During the day, I met with various staff members, including the VP of sales, public relations, talent recruitment, customer marketing, manager marketing and more. Each person gave a presentation on their position in the company about his or her day to day work. They also discussed how they arrived to where they are today and provided suggestions on how to be successful in the marketing and sales field.

How did this Externship help you make decisions about your future career?
This externship confirmed my interest in this field and made me really excited to enter the working world. I can’t wait to be part of a successful marketing and advertisement firm someday. Hearing from employees in a variety of positions also showed me other jobs that appealed to me that I was previously unaware of, like PR for instance.

What is something you took away from your Externship experience?
I learned how to better interact and communicate with potential bosses or future employers. I also learned that it is okay to relax and have a good time! The experience wasn't as formal or strict as I'd been imagining and every person we met was incredibly accomplished and high up in the company, but still down to earth and personable.

What advice did your Externship Host give?
My host recommended starting to network now to form as many connections as I can. He really emphasized the importance of networking as a whole.
