My Externship experience:
I was fortunate enough to shadow Rebecca Daugherty, the VP of Entertainment Marketing, at ABC Entertainment Marketing Department in Los Angeles. I was also able to shadow other employees within her department. It was an unbelievable experience. I watched the entire process of creating a video promotion for popular television shows like Revenge, Once Upon a Time, and even the Oscars!

How did this Externship help you make decisions about your future career?
My Externship helped confirm that I want to work in the entertainment industry. After having the opportunity to speak with a variety of employees at ABC, I know that I would love to work for ABC or any other similar network.

What was the most beneficial part of your Externship experience?
The most important skill that I learned was how to build connections.  Remaining connected with people you meet within the industry you want to pursue is vital and the best way to do so is through LinkedIn.  Everyone I met while at ABC stressed the need for me to use LinkedIn because it is an easy and beneficial way to stay connected with your peers who may become your future employers.

What advice did your Externship Host give?
I asked my sponsor for advice on securing an internship and recommendations for courses that I should take throughout college.  As a result, she connected me with the ABC Intern Recruiter for New York, where I am planning to live this summer. She also suggested that I take marketing classes as well as more film and media classes so that I am as prepared as possible to enter the entertainment industry.
