Jermaine Truax's passion for sports began in his hometown of Elmira, N.Y., about two hours north of Lewisburg. After following a cross-country career trajectory, he's enjoying a relative homecoming as Bucknell's new director of athletics & recreation.

"Bucknell has a strong national reputation for both athletics and academics," Truax says. "That's what drew me here more than anything. This is the true student-athlete model."

Truax, who began July 1, played high school and college football and first worked in scouting and player personnel with the Arena Football League's San Jose SaberCats and the NFL's Buffalo Bills.

A master's in sports management put him in line for what he really wanted to do - university sports administration. After starting off at St. Bonaventure University, Truax spent several years in the Midwest, first at Bowling Green State University, then Loyola University Chicago, where he was deputy athletic director.

At Bucknell, Truax says his goal will be "winning in the classroom, winning in the community and winning in the competitive arenas." He will focus on those three areas "as we try to provide a transformational student-athlete experience. Ultimately, that's what this is about."
