The Counseling & Student Development Center (CSDC) offers a wide range of mental health services, including individual and group therapy, alcohol and other drug assessments, crisis services, consultations, outreach programming, and psychiatric consultations. Our psychiatric providers are a valuable resource for medication management for current CSDC clients who are actively engaged in the counseling process.

As medical best practices evolve, we also need to change some of our practices to provide safe and proven care to our students and community. One such change in practice is a near future requirement for random drug testing to be performed on anyone who is on a long term therapy of a controlled substances (e.g. stimulants such as Adderall, Focalin, Concerta, Vyvanse, Ritalin etc. or benzodiazepines such as Xanax/Alprazolam or Ativan/Lorazepam) to help prevent misuse of such highly addictive drugs. Because Bucknell University will not be engaging in random drug testing for this purpose, beginning fall 2015, the CSDC psychiatric providers will no longer offer prescriptions for long-term controlled substances.

We recommend students discuss this with their home physician/psychiatrist to devise a plan for continuation of their medication throughout the school year. If, however, a student finds a need for services on campus, the CSDC, Bucknell Student Health, and the Office of Accessibility Resources are some of the many resources on campus available to assist in identifying local providers who may be willing to provide medication management.
