I had a couple of cousins attend college a few years before me, so I learned, or thought I learned, a little from their experience, even though they too were first-generation. I thought I found a good school fit, but I transferred after my first year. I learned that is was ok for college not to be the best time or years of my life. I learned that college held a different place and meaning for everyone, and I have to create a meaning for me. My meaning was purely academically educational.
