The mission of the Finance Office at Bucknell University is to:develop and maintain financial and related services to assist and support the University community in meeting the educational goals and objectives of the institution, and to develop and maintain the budgeting, accounting and reporting procedures and systems to provide for stewardship of the institution's financial resources and meet the fiduciary responsibilities to University constituencies and external parties. In the course of fulfilling this mission, the Finance Office maintains and/or has access to data covering a variety of sources: including public, restricted and confidential data.
In addition, Finance employees are expected to comply with numerous federal regulations, such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), GLB (Gramm, Leach Bliley Act), HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) and FDCA (Fair Debt Collection Act), that restrict or provide guidance for data access, disclosure and retention.

Within the above data are items of public record, such as directory information – name, listed address and phone numbers; but confidential information is also maintained such as social security numbers, financial information, pay rates, etc.
Information is restricted to office staff or other University staff with a business purpose for access. Disclosure of information to others is based on written authorization from the student or employee or as prescribed under the regulations listed above.
All staff in the Finance Office are expected to comply with this confidentiality policy and to report immediately any violation or possible violation covered by this document.
