Academic East construction, which begins April 2 and concludes in August 2019, will significantly reduce available parking near Breakiron Engineering, Academic West and Bertrand Library. We ask for your patience during this time as we work to expand our teaching and learning space with this new academic facility.
Parking in the areas near the construction site will be especially constrained during April and May 2018. To ensure you are prepared for these changes, please review the following lot and walkway closures and plan accordingly. | Map
The following changes are effective April 1, 2018.
- Lot 48: 36 student spots will be closed and will reopen in August 2019.
- Lot 49: 30 faculty/staff spaces will be closed and will reopen August 2019.
- Lot 55 (lower tier) will be reserved for contractor parking until August 2019.
- 24 spaces in the lot adjacent to Breakiron and in the old Dana Engineering/Delta Upsilon lot will be permanently eliminated.
The most recent Master Plan transportation survey indicates that even with these closures, Bucknell will continue to have an excess of more than 400 available spaces. Be assured that parking will continue to be available, though potentially farther away from your destination.
We encourage those who can walk or bicycle to campus to do so. If you must drive, plan to arrive on campus early, and consider carpooling.
Where can I park while these lots are closed?
Faculty and staff are encouraged to use Lots 63 and 65 (near the stadium) or the upper tiers of the South Campus Lot (Lot 55). The lower tier of Lot 55 will be reserved for contractor parking; please observe signage in this area.
Students should continue to park in student lots or all-decal spaces. Parking in these areas will not be increased, so we strongly encourage students to walk, bicycle or carpool as much as possible.
Please note that, in an effort to prioritize pedestrian traffic across campus and in support of our sustainability efforts, we are making permanent changes to student parking policies and practices. Beginning in fall 2018, students with vehicles who live on campus will be required to park in designated lots Monday-Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. | Student parking changes for 2018-19
What about ADA parking?
Beginning April 30 and continuing through Aug. 3, 2018, four ADA spaces will be temporarily relocated to Lot 44, directly behind Dana and Breakiron. These are designated for faculty, staff and students with disabilities. Please contact Public Safety for more information on ADA permits.
When will the lots reopen?
In fall 2018, Lot 59 will be redesignated as parking for faculty and staff, which will add 32 spaces. The University vehicle pool currently occupying Lot 59 will permanently move this summer to Lot 1, just east of Gerhard Field House at the corner of Route 15. This lot will be paved and receive upgraded lighting and blue safety lights.
In August 2019, spaces in Lots 48, 49 and 55 will reopen.
Beginning April 2 and continuing through August 2019, fences surrounding the construction site will impact foot traffic in this area. Pedestrian traffic, including access to Dana and Breakiron, will be rerouted. Stay alert for signage and watch for periodic updates from Facilities as footpaths may be reconfigured as construction progresses.
