Bioelectricity Lab — Enables teaching and research that explores the electrical properties and activity of the body, including instruments that monitor and interact with nerves, the heart, skeletal muscle and the brain, and interventions that stimulate electrically sensitive cells for therapeutic or prosthetic applications.
Cell Culture & Tissue Preparation Lab — Introduces students to methods for growing and imaging cells, and to techniques used in the rapidly growing fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Medical Device Fabrication Space — Offers enhanced rapid prototyping equipment to speed the development of novel medical devices, such as the now-patented dual-stopper syringe jointly developed by Bucknell students, faculty and staff, and members of Geisinger Health System.
Mobile Application Lab — Supports projects focused on the betterment of society through smartphones and related devices, including collaborations to develop mobile applications for oncampus and community-based partners.
Signal Processing Lab — Engages students in the sophisticated processes that enable high-speed audio and video streaming. The soundproof space will be equipped with multichannel audio recording and reproduction systems to aid research into automatic speech recognition and other artificial intelligence tools.
Sustainable Transportation Lab — Facilitates modeling of transportation systems, roadside crash barrier design and other efforts to enhance motorist, cyclist and pedestrian safety. Contains a research project room dedicated solely to undergraduate and graduate transportation research projects.
Biomechanics Lab — Provides teaching and research space for activities that involve human locomotion, including injury rehabilitation, sports and dance. Instruments will safely measure motion of and forces on human subjects involved in common and more stressful movements.
Advanced Automotive Technologies Research Lab — Supports investigations into the future of automotive transportation, including electric vehicles, driver assistance technology, automotive sensors and autonomous vehicles, with drive-in, drive-out access for prototype vehicles.
Renewable Energy Lab — Enables research and teaching into solar energy, hydrogen and fuel cells, sustainable fresh water production, and energy efficiency and conservation.
Green Roof Research Lab — Collects environmental data for teaching and research about the environmental benefits of green roofs that can inform policy and design of green infrastructure systems.
Senior Design and Project Showcase Spaces — Offers room for long-term student research and design projects, and extra security for projects developed in conjunction with corporate partners.
Microscopy Suite — Provides a larger, more accessible space for the College of Engineering’s scanning electron microscope, as well as optical microscopes and other imaging devices. Located in the basement, it will sit on an isolated, vibrationdampening concrete slab to prevent building vibrations from interfering with near-atomic-level resolution capabilities of the instruments.
