Columbia University - At the Institute of African Studies, students can pursue African studies at the graduate level.

Cornell University - Cornell provides a graduate and Ph.D. program in Africana Studies.

Florida International University - The African & African Diaspora Studies Program (AADS) offers a two-year M.A. program, as well as combined M.A./Ph.D. degrees in AADS and International Relations, History or Global & Sociocultural Studies. 

Georgia State University - Georgia State offers a graduate interdisciplinary program in Africana Studies.

Harvard University - The Department of African & African American Studies offers graduate programs in the fields of African American studies and of African Studies.

Indiana University - The Department of African & African American Diaspora Studies Program at Indiana University offers an M.A. and Ph.D., as well as joint degrees and minors.

Michigan State University - Michigan State University offers an interdisciplinary program of study which leads to a Ph.D. in African American and African Studies. An M.A. in African American Studies is also available.

New York University - The Africana Studies Program in the Department of Social & Cultural Analysis has an M.A. degree with a broad interdisciplinary curriculum in the study of Africans and Afro-descendants globally.

Northwestern University - The Department of African American Studies offers a Ph.D. program to earn a graduate certificate in Gender Studies and in African Studies.

Ohio State University -  The Department of African American & African Studies offers graduate degrees at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels.

Pacific Oaks College - Pacific Oaks' African-American Family Studies Marriage & Family Therapy program offers an M.A. degree.

Penn State University - Students can earn a degree with a dual-title in African American & Diaspora Studies at the Ph.D. level. Dual-title Ph.D. partners are the Department of Art History, the Department of English and the Department of History.

Syracuse University  - The Department of African American Studies offers an M.A. in Pan African Studies.

Temple University - The Department of African American Studies offers an M.A. and Ph.D. program.  

University at Albany, State University of New York - The Department of Africana Studies offers graduate-level interdisciplinary programs.

University of California (Berkeley) - The African American Studies Program offers a multidisciplinary approach to earning a Ph.D. with a strong component of the program being African Diaspora Studies.

University of Louisville - The Department of Pan-African Studies offers an M.A. and Ph.D.

University of Massachusetts at Amherst - The department of Afro-American Studies offers a Ph.D. in Philosophy and an M.A. with a focus on the tradition of W. E. B. Du Bois. The University also offers a graduate certificate in African Diaspora Studies.  

University of Pennsylvania - Africana Studies at Penn is defined as a multidisciplinary field of study offering graduate certificate as well as the Ph.D.

University of Texas at Austin - The African & African Diaspora Studies graduate program is a full-time course of study for students seeking a terminal doctoral degree. The program includes an integrated M.A. that serves as the initial requirement towards receiving the Ph.D.

University of Wisconsin at Madison - The Department of Afro-American Studies offers an M.A. in a wide range of disciplines.  Also, candidates for a Ph.D. in other departments may obtain a doctoral minor in Afro-American Studies.

University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee - This program offers a Ph.D. in Africology, which encompasses Africa and the African diaspora and researches societies across the globe.

Yale University - The Department of African American Studies offers a combined Ph.D. in conjunction with several other departments and programs.
