Research Interests

Professor Kosmin's work explores the history of medicine in early modern Italy. Focusing on childbirth, reproduction, and women's health, Kosmin is interested in understanding the social and cultural dimensions of scientific and medical knowledge, both in the past and in the present. In both her writing and teaching, Kosmin sees the aim of her work as shedding light on the cultural embeddedness of basic ideas about bodies and disease, such as concepts like race, sexuality, health and illness.
