I'm currently a Peace Corps volunteer living in a rural village in South Africa, teaching math to fifth and sixth graders in a small primary school.
While being a teacher is the primary focus of my service here, in my free time I work on secondary projects. Most notable of these side projects is helping to start a science center in the village. This is a very beneficial project for the village because most people here do not even have a basic understanding of math or science.
My math degree was a big part of my being accepted to the Peace Corps, and it has been very helpful in my work at the new science center. My math degree helps me explain certain concepts and quickly understand the underlying ideas of many of the exhibits. -Michael Adams, '12
