Dear Members of the University Community:

We are happy to provide a brief update on the search for the next Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Last week, the search committee released the final position profile which is now available on the dean search website.

The position profile was developed based on broad input. We collected and incorporated feedback in small group and open forum meetings held by our search consultants during their visit in August, from a survey of Arts & Sciences faculty, and from the search committee, which is broadly representative of the campus. The profile outlines the College's many strengths, lists some of the key opportunities and challenges facing the next Dean, and captures the experiences and qualities the committee seeks in an ideal candidate. Our search consultants from Storbeck/Pimentel have begun to share the profile with potential candidates for the position as well as with sources who can suggest names of other talented individuals who may be an excellent match for our campus.

In coming weeks, the committee and its consultants will seek to build a strong and diverse pool of candidates. We invite you to share the position profile with colleagues around the country who may be interested in this position themselves or who can suggest strong candidates. We also encourage you to send the names of potential candidates directly to our search consultants by email at They will follow up on all suggestions that come from within the Bucknell community.

We would also like to announce that a new member, Carol White, has joined the search committee. Given that some members will have to miss a meeting or two, adding one more person to the committee will help ensure that we have a full, strong team at the table for every discussion. Professor Carol White is a full professor in Religious Studies and is also a member of Faculty Council. The complete list of search committee members can be found on the search website.

Thank you for your time and your interest in the search as a community, and for the input and suggestions you have contributed to date. We are excited to be moving on to the next phase of the search and will update you on our progress again soon.

Search Committee Co-chairs
