The Biomedical Engineering department makes use of the following laboratories and technological resources.

  • Biomedical Engineering Hybrid Instructional Facility with multiple stations for the integration of lecture and laboratory exercises.  Equipment provides for instruction into areas of cardiovascular fluid mechanics, pulmonary function, hemodialysis, drug delivery, electrocardiography, electromyography, human gait and balance, and soft-tissue biomechanics.  Exercises include both bench-top experiments and computer based simulations.
  • Biotransport Research Laboratory equipped for experiments in the areas of drug delivery, fluid mechanics associated with liquid and gas flows, mass transport, hemodialysis, and fluid flow visualization.  Designed to provide opportunities for students to conduct independent research relating to both course based design projects and faculty research.
  • Bioinstrumentation laboratory with instruments for electrocardiography, Doppler ultrasound, blood glucose monitoring, exercise physiology, thermal, electrical and fluid properties of tissues.
  • Biomedical engineering research laboratory equipped for experiments to study biomedical phenomena including fluid mechanics visualization, gas/liquid multi-phase flows, hemodialysis, bacterial cultivation, and cellular adhesion and motility. High-speed digital imaging, electromagnetic blood flow meter, microdialysis apparatus, total internal reflection aqueous fluorescence microscope.
  • Biomedical engineering teaching laboratory with multiple workstations for electrocardiography, electromyography, electroencephelography, soft tissue biomechanics, pulmonary function, muscle force, hemodialysis.
  • Electronic classrooms, computer-aided design laboratories with PC computers and UNIX workstations.
  • Project development laboratory for fabrication of student projects.
  • Scanning electron microscope.
  • Rapid prototyping facility.
  • State of the art chemistry and biology laboratories.
