Prof. L. Felipe Perrone, Dept. of Computer Science, earned a $10,000 award from the Institute for Electric and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) for his curricular module entitled Public Service Announcement Movies Made with the Alice Programming Language. The module, which was used in the Computer Science seminar in ENGR 100 two years in a row, is now part of a database of projects available to adopters in institutions around the world. This project driven module has students develop short animated movies to deliver a socially important message. Working with the Alice programming language, students learn the basics of the object oriented programming paradigm in the context of the Engineering Design Process. Through this project, Bucknell students explored topics such as bullying, substance abuse, health and public safety, and civic responsibilities ("get out the vote").
