On Saturday, Oct. 24, more than 250 engineering alumni, students, faculty and friends attended the College of Engineering celebration dinner during Homecoming Weekend.
"Our annual Homecoming dinner continues to be a high point of the year for the College and a great celebration of the College of Engineering, and in particular the success and support of our alumni," said Keith Buffinton, Dean of the College of Engineering. "I was thrilled to be able to recognize Bob Gilligan with our Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award as well as all of our many loyal alumni, more than 1,000 in number, who support the Engineering Fund and volunteer their time and expertise in support of the College of Engineering."
The evening's celebration had several areas of focus including:
- Presentation of the Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award -
This year's award was presented to Robert J. Gilligan '81 for his accomplishments, service, and dedication to his profession, society and Bucknell University.
- Alumni and friends who gave to the Engineering Fund this past year -
The Engineering Fund provides essential resources to enrich the educational experiences of our students, supporting the student chapters of our professional societies, student travel to present papers at technical conferences and attendance at professional society meetings, acquisition of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and student-faculty research projects.
- Alumni and friends who volunteered their time and expertise this past year -
These volunteers have served vital roles, serving as admissions contacts, arranging for student internships and employment opportunities, providing information about engineering careers to our students, and helping to arrange joint student-alumni field trips.
- Junior Class Induction into the BEAA - During a special ceremony held under blue and orange glow sticks, members of the BEAA Board of Directors were joined by Buffinton to welcome the engineering junior class into the BEAA.
"This year's celebration dinner was another big success for the BEAA. We presented our annual Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award to Bob Gilligan, a longtime supporter of the College through his involvement with ILTM, the Engineering Success Alliance, and support for many student internships. We also had the pleasure of welcoming many donors and supporters of the College as we inducted the junior and senior classes into the BEAA." said Mitch Blumenfeld '91, President of the BEAA.
"Every year we have a great turnout for this event from students and alumni supporters of the College, emphasizing that lifelong connection to Bucknell that is a central mission of the BEAA."
The seniors were also recognized as members of the BEAA during the ceremony.
