Reunion 2014 brought more than 200 individuals to the BEAA's annual Cocktails and Contraptions event. This event brought together alumni and their families with faculty and staff while socializing and working together to solve an engineering challenge. This year's challenge was a tricky one with 39 families building a barge boat using supplied materials. The completed barge was tested for the maximum weight held before sinking below the surface of the water. Design and quality varied across the field with prizes awarded for the top three barges. This year we added the engineering catapults to the activities. Nate Siegel, Asst. Prof. of Mechanical Engineering, was available to explain the engineering behind the devices while answering the questions of aspiring future engineers. A good time was had by all!
