Bucknell uses The Campus Theatre for Film/Media Studies classroom screenings, which are free and open to the public. In addition, Bucknell supports a Tuesday evening Film/Media Series that showcases repertory cinema and contemporary independent and international film. These offerings allow Film/Media Studies students to see films projected as they were meant to be seen: on the big screen and with an audience. They also serve as an important bridge between the university and the greater Lewisburg community for promoting the art of cinema.
The Campus Theatre was designed by noted Philadelphia architect David Supowitz as part of the Stiefel Family chain of theatres. It has continuously operated as a single screen movie theatre since 1941 and is one of the few surviving art deco cinemas in the world. Facilities include 35mm reel-to-reel projection as well as state-of-the-art 2K digital projection with Dolby surround sound.
