Bucknell University's College of Management is proud to be a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (UNPRiME). The College of Management is committed to implementing the UNPRiME principles and in creating a community where reflection upon the meaning and actions of a responsible manager are a cornerstone of the educational process.

We are committed to management education adhering to themes associated with liberal learning:

  • A commitment to ethics and values (including but not limited to Integrity, Honesty, Transparency, Trustworthiness, Inclusivity, Justice, Empathy, and Stewardship for Future Generations).
  • Receptive to ideas regardless of their origin or one's own worldview.
  • Critical awareness of one's actions in relationship to the historic, geographic, and cultural contexts in which they take place.
  • Active citizenship (versus simply an intellectual posture).

We aspire to create an educational environment that challenges the notion of management professionals as being solely interested in personal gain regardless of its impact on others, not thinking deeply about ethical and moral reasoning, and as acting irresponsibly.

Instead, we aim to develop citizens who enter the professional world (including but not limited to for-profit, governmental, and nonprofit organizations) acting in thoughtful ways by promoting management, organizations, and business as a means for good.

The UNPRiME elements of the UN Global Compact are viewed as one of the most important initiatives to inspire and champion responsible management education, research, and thought leadership globally.

UNPRiME Principles 

UNPRME is a program that aims to inspire and champion responsible management education, research, and thought leadership globally

Principle 1 | Purpose: We will develop the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy.

Principle 2 | Values: We will incorporate into our academic activities and curricula the values of global social responsibility as portrayed in international initiatives such as the United Nations Global Compact

Principle 3 | Method: We will create educational frameworks, materials, processes and environments that enable effective learning experiences for responsible leadership.

Principle 4 | Research: We will engage in conceptual and empirical research that advances our understanding about the role, dynamics, and impact of corporations in the creation of sustainable social, environmental and economic value.

Principle 5 | Partnership: We will interact with managers of business corporations to extend our knowledge of their challenges in meeting social and environmental responsibilities and to explore jointly effective approaches to meeting these challenges.

Principle 6 | Dialogue: We will facilitate and support dialog and debate among educators, students, business, government, consumers, media, civil society organizations, and other interested groups and stakeholders on critical issues related to global social responsibility and sustainability.
