Todd Rosenlieb '89

Todd Rosenlieb, artistic director of Todd Rosenlieb Dance, began his professional career in 1992 with the late modern dance choreographer Erick Hawkins. He was named Hawkins’ company director in 1995, at which time he staged and performed Hawkins’ last work, Journey of a Poet, with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Project at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Rosenlieb holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and English from Bucknell University and a master’s degree in dance performance and choreography from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. His original choreography has been commissioned for the Richmond Ballet, Ballets de San Juan, Nashville Ballet, the Indianapolis Symphony, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Virginia Arts Festival. He has staged productions for Petula Clark and the Imani Quintet, and has been commissioned by university dance departments across the nation.

Rosenlieb has been honored by the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads with an Alli Award and by the Norfolk (Va.) Bureau of Cultural Affairs with an Arts Star Award,and serves on the board of directors for the Downtown Norfolk Council. Todd Rosenlieb Dance received an Innovators Award from the Norfolk Arts Commission for its commitment to collaboration. In 2006 it was recognized by the Norfolk Development Department as one of the Rising 5 New Small Businesses.

A master Pilates instructor, Rosenlieb serves on the faculty of the Governor’s School for the Arts and Tidewater Community College, based in Norfolk.
