Karen Landis, Associate Director of Athletics for Recreation Services
Karen joined the Recreation Services team in August 2013. On staff at Bucknell for the last eight years, first in the Dean of Student's office as assistant director of fraternity and sorority affairs from 2005-08, and from 2008-2013 in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations as an assistant director in charge of major campus events.
From 2000-03, Landis was assistant director of athletics for business and finance at Saint Mary's College in Moraga, Calif. She also has athletics experience working in the ticket office at VCU in 1999-2000 and as an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Davidson in 1999. A 1995 graduate of Drexel University, she was a four-year member of the Dragons' varsity women's lacrosse team. She earned a master's degree in sports leadership and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000. Karen and her husband Tim reside in Lewisburg with their four children: TJ, Jordan, Jackson and Charlie.
Connie Aucker, Recruiting/Membership Services Assistant
Connie graduated from Milton High School in 1970, and Williamsport Area Community College in 1972 with a degree in Executive Secretarial Work. She joined the Bucknell Athletics Department in 1979. She has been married to her husband Greg for 40 years, and has a son Corey and daughter Kelly. Connie has two granddaughters named Mackenzie and Mackayla who she enjoys spending time with.
Bob Hammerlee, Tennis Instructor
Bob has been the Recreation Services Tennis instructor since 2002. From 1992-2002, he was the head coach for the Bucknell Men's Tennis program, acquiring the 1997 Patriot League "Coach of the Year" award and being voted "Coach of the Year" by Bucknell's student newspaper, The Bucknellian.
Laurel Kopecky, Assistant Director of Recreation Services
Laurel graduated from Michigan State University in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology. She then went on to work at Northwestern University as a strength and conditioning coach from 2006-2008. In 2008 Laurel went on to work for Equinox Fitness in downtown Chicago as a personal trainer for the next four years. She joined the Bucknell University Recreation Services staff in August 2012. In her free time Laurel trains and competes in triathlons and hopes to race her first Ironman in Summer 2014.
Lesia Schinnerer, Tennis Instructor
Lesia played 1st singles and 1st doubles for the University of Richmond and was ranked top 10 in the NCAA doubles her senior year. She competed professionally and earned singles and doubles WTA ranking. Prior to coming to Bucknell, Lesia worked as a tennis pro at a Huron Valley Tennis Club and Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Matt Seibert, Program Coordinator, Late Night @ KLARC/Special Events
Matt graduated from nearby Meadowbrook Christian School in 2009. He then went to Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC where he played soccer and majored in Recreation and Leisure Services Administration. Matt graduated from Southern Wesleyan University in December 2012 and joined the Bucknell University Recreation Services staff in February 2013. Matt and Celina were married in July 2013.
Vanessa Smoley, Personal Fitness Trainer
Started with Bucknell in 2012 and has been personal training for 15 years. She currently holds the following certifications; Exercise Science Alliance Strength & Conditioning, International Kettlebell Fitness Federation, and Mad Dogg Spinning. In 2004, Vanessa received her professional figure bodybuilding status and competed in figure bodybuilding competitions until 2011 when she retired.
Vanessa takes great joy in providing quality, customized training to a diverse group of clientele. In her own training experience and education, she always sought to keep as much variety as possible, which helps her offer a broad range of training techniques and styles to her clients.
Mike Caputo, Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer
Mike is employed by Geisinger Health Systems as a Certified Athletic Trainer and is responsible for providing athletic training and injury care services to club sport student-athletes at Bucknell. Immediately after graduation from Lock Haven University in 2013, he started his employment at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA within the Orthopaedic Orthotics department. In addition to working in the Orthopaedic clinic, Mike has provided medical coverage for all of the Bucknell club athletes with a higher focus on greater contact sports like Rugby, Ice Hockey, and Lacrosse. Aside from his work with Geisinger and Bucknell, Mike also serves in the United States Army as a reservist.
