The Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women Campus Grant Program outlines four requirements of all grantees. Bucknell has created several related and additional goals for the work that lies ahead.

Minimum Department of Justice Requirements
- Create a coordinated community response to violence against women on campus
In November 2012, Bucknell and community professionals responsible for first response, medical, legal and judicial services and resources began meeting to develop a shared protocol that will help provide a seamless response to sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. The team, referred to as the Campus Community Response Team, meets monthly and has a goal of completing the protocol by December 2013.
The Project Directors and various CCRT members will attend an Office on Violence Against Women Technical Assistance Institute relative to this requirement in February 2014.
- Establish a mandatory prevention and education program
Bucknell has provided mandatory education for all first-year students for the past seven years. In the Fall of 2012, we replaced the previous curriculum with the Speak UP Bucknell program, provided by a team of peer educators to all first-year residence hall floors. For the Fall of 2013, we will be strengthening the program to ensure 100% completion by all incoming students, including transfer students.
The Project Directors and the Interpersonal Violence Prevention Coordinator will attend an Office on Violence Against Women Technical Assistance Institute relative to this requirement in June 2013.
- Train all law enforcement
We have built into the grant three annual training opportunities for law enforcement to include both Bucknell’s Department of Public Safety and the Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department. In February 2013, a team of five individuals (including both law enforcement chiefs, the legal advocate from Transitions, and the project directors) attended a technical institute provided by the Office on Violence Against Women during which we drafted a Law Enforcement Strategic Plan (pdf), outlining our shared strengths and weaknesses, and our goals for moving forward. Our first law enforcement training will take place in May 2013 and will focus on how to sensitively and effectively interview survivors of sexual and dating violence.
The Project Directors, the chiefs of the Department of Public Safety and Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department, and the legal Advocate from Transitions attended an Office of Violence Against Women Technical Assistance Institute relative to this requirement in February 2013.
- Establish or strengthen programs to train all members of campus disciplinary boards
The University provides annual training for members of the Community Judicial Board, from whom the Hearing Board on Sexual Misconduct is drawn.
The Project Directors and other Bucknell staff members will attend an Office of Violence Against Women Technical Assistance Institute relative to this requirement in June 2014.
