College of Arts & Sciences

General questions about the Arts & Sciences curricula can be answered by a Summer Academic Counselor (SAC). For questions regarding courses in or about majors in specific departments or programs, consult the list of faculty who have agreed to answer questions from incoming students relating to their department and their course offerings. You will learn who your official academic adviser is once you are on campus.

If you are in a Bachelor of Arts degree program, your Foundation Seminar instructor will serve as your academic adviser until you declare a major in the sophomore year.  If you are in a Bachelor of Science degree program, you will have an adviser in your major, and your Foundation Seminar instructor will serve as a second adviser just for the first semester.

You will receive your schedule in early August. With adviser permission, you will be able to change into open classes on the Friday and Saturday before classes start. You will have an additional opportunity to make changes during the drop/add period (the first two weeks of classes).

College of Engineering

Each department in the College of Engineering assigns all incoming students who have declared that major to the same adviser. Undeclared engineers are assigned to other engineering faculty members in the College until they declare their major, at which point they will be reassigned to the adviser for their class year in that department.

Freeman College of Management

Freeman College of Management students are strongly encouraged to participate in one of the scheduled web conferencing sessions to obtain more information about curricular requirements. For questions regarding courses in specific departments or programs, consult the list of faculty who have agreed to answer questions from incoming students relating to their department and their course offerings. Additionally, each student is paired with a learning community leader, an upperclass Freeman student, who is available as a peer resource to ask general questions.

All incoming Freeman students are assigned to a management faculty member. This faculty member will serve as your academic adviser until you declare a major in the sophomore year. Once a major is declared, you will be reassigned to an adviser in your major, if a change is necessary. You will learn who your official academic adviser is once you are on campus.
