Preparing To Register (Sign up for Courses)

Step 1

We strongly encourage all students in the College of Arts & Sciences to take advantage of an opportunity to speak with a Summer Academic Counselor before you complete your registration materials. If the answers to your questions about registration are not in the materials sent, you are invited to call in to a professor in the College of Arts & Sciences to answer any specific questions you have. These are faculty members who, in addition to general questions about the curriculum, can answer questions such as these: What is the difference between Residential College Foundation Seminars and the other Foundation Seminars? What if I have taken an AP course/exam? How do I know my language placement? Do I have to declare a major now? Can I double major?

To make an appointment with a professor: Please call during regular business hours (8:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. EDT) or email Lindsey Hahn in the Dean’s Office (570.577.1301 or llh013@bucknell.edu). She will help you set up an appointment.

  • If you want an appointment between May 14 and May 30, you should request an appointment by May 11.

  • If you want an appointment after May 30, you should request an appointment with one of these counselors no later than May 30.

ATTENTION: Many faculty would like to talk with you via Skype. Please set up a Skype account, if you do not already have one, and provide Lindsey Hahn with your Skype contact. Please note that these faculty members are prepared to talk with you about your first semester no matter what your (intended) major or what your academic questions might be. Appointments will be available Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. EDT between May 14 and June 15. For questions regarding courses in or about majors in specific departments or programs your Summer Academic Counselor cannot answer, consult the list of faculty who have agreed to answer questions from incoming students relating to their department and their course offerings.

Step 2

Review the Model First-semester Programs
Students who indicated an intended major in animal behavior, biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental geology, geology, mathematics or physics: These programs offer a choice of a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. What is the difference between a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degree?

Step 3

Read the first-year course descriptions
These are the courses that will be available to you in your first semester. They can be found on the Course Information for First-year Students page.

Step 4

Become familiar with Bucknell's requirements
Review the University's general requirements so you know what to expect throughout your academic career. If you indicated on your application that you are interested in a particular major, become familiar with that program in the University Course Catalog. It is important, however, that you use the Course Information for First-year Students page to select your courses rather than the Course Catalog.
