Bob Malesardi '45 has always championed the importance of giving back to Bucknell. In 1973, the successful business leader wrote an essay in the University's alumni magazine to inspire fellow Bucknellians to support their alma mater. "By giving to Bucknell, you provide the children of today the same opportunities we had to receive a superior education," he wrote.
More than four decades later, Malesardi and his wife, Doris, made a historic $20 million pledge to the University that will ensure generations of students will have those opportunities. The pledge is dedicated entirely to supporting endowed scholarships through the Malesardi Match, a program designed to motivate other donors to make a Bucknell education possible for all qualified students.
"This is one of the most meaningful and gratifying decisions of my life. All of the success I've experienced is in some way rooted in the education I received at Bucknell," said Malesardi, who majored in accounting and was a member of the wrestling team, the Navy V-12 program and Sigma Chi. "I have sincere affection, pride and respect for this great University. This pledge is the culmination of my 75-year relationship with Bucknell."
