Eric SantanenWhat did you make and why is it cool?

This is my custom home theater system. It is "cool" because it is in my basement, which never gets warmer than 70 degrees fahrenheit and makes for a comfortable place to be all year long. It was fun to build (though it took several years to complete) and a tremendous learning experience. I ended up building three amps from scratch, one amp from a kit, seven speakers, a great subwoofer and sound absorbing acoustic panels. It is also cool because it provides an audio experience that cannot be matched by any commercial movie theater.

How did you get started?

I have always had an interest in electronics and audio. I've been playing with a soldering iron since age 8, and things have grown progressively from then. Each new audio component is bigger and better than the one that came before it.

What's next?

More tweaking of the audio system (amp and speaker mods) for improved performance. Anything much more than what I have now will require a larger house. | See more speaker images
