What is Arts First?

Arts First is a five-day program for members of the Class of 2022 to learn about the rich possibilities Bucknell offers for students interested in the arts. In addition to exploring the creative process with like-minded students, you will have the opportunity to learn about Bucknell's arts academic programs, centers, internships, and student clubs, and arts entrepreneurship, community-building, and leadership opportunities.

You will work with a visiting artist and Bucknell faculty in the disciplines of theatre, dance, music, art, art history, creative writing, museum studies, publishing, and film and media. The program will culminate with the creation of an original art event.

Who is invited to participate

This special arts pre-orientation includes but is not limited to Bucknell's Arts Merit Scholars and Arts Residential College students. The program is designed for incoming Bucknell undergraduate students who would like to explore the arts for enrichment or as a possible platform for future careers.

Arts First is limited to forty first-year participants. Preferential admission goes to Arts Merits Scholars and Arts Residential College students. The remaining slots are awarded on a first come, first served basis to first-year students with a demonstrated interest in the arts.

Arts First does not require you to have any formal arts preparation, although experienced student artists and performers are welcome and encouraged to attend. You need only be interested in exploring the arts and creativity with other like-minded students.

When and where will the program take place?

Arts First is held on Bucknell's campus from Friday, Aug. 10 - Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018. Come and meet your new Bucknell classmates for a fun and creative experience before New Student Orientation.

What does the program cost?

Arts First is free of charge to students admitted to the program.
