What is Arts First?
Arts First is a five-day program for members of the Class of 2023 to learn about the rich possibilities Bucknell offers for students interested in the arts. In addition to exploring the creative process with like-minded students, you will have the opportunity to learn about Bucknell’s arts academic programs, centers, internships, and student clubs, and arts-related entrepreneurship, community-building, and leadership opportunities. Arts First participants will work with a visiting artist and Bucknell faculty in the disciplines of theatre, dance, film and media, art, music, and creative writing. The program includes talent shows, late-night entertainment, team-building activities, and more than a few chances to make lifetime memories! Arts First participants often return as mentors as upperclassmen.
This special arts pre-orientation includes but is not exclusive to Bucknell’s Arts Merit Scholars and Arts Residential College students. The program is designed for incoming Bucknell undergraduate students who would like to explore the arts for enrichment or as a possible platform for future careers. No arts expertise is required, although experienced student artists are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Arts First is limited to 40 First-Year participants. Preferential admission goes to Arts Merits Scholars and Arts Residential College students. The remaining slots are awarded on a first come, first served basis to First-Year students with a demonstrated interest in the arts.
When and where?
The 2019 program runs Friday, Aug. 16 – Tuesday, Aug. 20, ending the day before First-Year Orientation begins on Wednesday, Aug. 21. Come and meet your new Bucknell classmates for a meaningful creative experience before orientation!
What does the program cost?
The program is free to all students who are admitted.
