"Growing up, I told myself I didn't want to be a teacher. But coming to Bucknell, meeting my professors and experiencing their mentorship has made me want to be a professor. The way they study literature has helped me learn to analyze texts and inspired me to teach.

As I've delved deeper into studying English literature, I've found it's really fruitful to study different perspectives. In the past year and a half, I worked a lot with Professor Alfred Siewers. He assigned us to choose a philosopher to read in conjunction with Lord of the Rings and write a paper on our findings. After reading my paper, Professor Siewers encouraged me to expand upon the topic and present it at an academic conference. With his help, I presented the paper at an undergraduate medieval literature conference. The opportunity to have such personal relationships with professors is so present and available at Bucknell, and I think that's wonderful.

"I've also had the opportunity to take my love for English literature outside the classroom. In the Literary Studies club, I had the opportunity to get feedback from my peers on my conference paper and presentation, which was incredibly helpful. Shakespeare Society is a bit more creative. We get together and try different methods of performing. We did a flash performance of Henry V on St. Crispin's Day on campus. We didn't tell anyone about it; we just performed it at a busy time during the day. Both clubs allow me to expand what I learn in the classroom with my peers outside of class. That's where I've made my core group of friends, and it's fantastic.

"My writing at Bucknell has improved immensely since I first entered college. My professors have mentored me, and my peers have inspired me. This really is the perfect place to study English literature."
