Maung Shaw Loo

The University's first international student, Maung Shaw Loo, Class of 1864, came from Burma, today Myanmar, and was also the first Burmese native to study in the U.S.

Edward McKnight Brawley

Edward McKnight Brawley in 1875 became the University's first African American graduate. He went on to become president of two institutions, what would later become Selma University and Morris College, which he helped to found.
