Get acquainted with fellow Bucknellians who are first-generation college students like you. GenFirst! @ Bucknell ambassadors are available to give advice, be mentors and, most importantly, be friends and allies.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Ty, a third-year and a Posse Scholar from South Los Angeles, CA. I am studying Africana Studies and Philosophy under a Pre-Law track. Outside of GenFirst, I joined the Humanities Residential College this year as a co-Junior Fellow. I am an active congress member of Black Student Union, an avid supporter of The Griot Institute series, and often off-campus working downtown or student-led initiatives. I am passionate about a new age of music industry, and I plan to make it a career. Within the next few years, I hope to publish entertainment businesses through labels in Los Angeles. To all GenFirst, please reach out for inquiry or just a reliable set of ears. Stories matter; as ambassadors, I that feel our mission makes implicit resources and modes of access, clearer and more explicit for everyone. As the vanguard of your personal stories, first-generation students, please advocate for yourselves as students who rightfully deserve to be here. Peace.”
"I am a first-year student in the Arts & Sciences interested in majoring in English or Spanish but even more importantly I am a first-generation college student. My identity as a member of Bucknell's GenFirst community is very important to me and I'm really glad that the university brings us together. I want people to know that there is a community of people who have gone through similar experiences ready to help one another and I am one of those people. Some of the positions I’m proudest to have on campus are as a DJ at the school's radio station, WVBU, a photographer for Activities and Campus Events, a member of the Bucknell Brigade for the spring of 2018, and of course a GenFirst Ambassador."
"When I’m not working as a Gen First ambassador I am the President of B.R.A.I.N (Bucknellians, Researchers, Advocates, and Investigators of Neuroscience) Club and Secretary of Bucknell’s HOSA team (Health Occupations Students of America). I am also a proud member of the Alpha Phi Omega service Fraternity, and Residential Advisor for McDonnell Residential Hall and Humanities Residential College. I will also be traveling to Nicaragua with the Bucknell Brigade this January! "
