The Office of Environment Health & Safety and Bucknell Facilities are installing hand sanitizing stations, plexiglass shields and signs around campus. No action from building occupants is required.

If departments/offices have a need for plexiglass barriers in their area, requests should be forwarded to the department/office point-of-contact, who will forward the request to the Office of Environmental Health & Safety for evaluation.

List of department/office points of contact 

Bottles of hand sanitizer will be placed at all administrative assistant work areas and in areas with frequent visitors. If additional bottles are needed, the department/office point of contact should contact the office custodial section supervisor.

Spray bottles of disinfectant and paper towel dispensers will be placed in all classrooms, labs, conference rooms, and common-use areas such as kitchens and reception areas. Spray bottles will also be placed in central areas within offices to support the disinfecting of individual office spaces. If additional bottles are needed, the department/office point of contact should contact the office custodial section supervisor.

These types of supplies will continue to be ordered by department/offices that use them. For assistance in sourcing and expediting these items contact Michael Simon, Procurement Services buyer, at mcs022@bucknell.edu.

Recognizing that faculty will not be sharing erasers, markers and chalk, the department/office point of contact will be provided an inventory of these items to distribute to faculty. If additional supplies are needed, the department/office point of contact should contact the office custodial section supervisor.

Signage for offices or workspaces can be ordered through the Print, Publications & Mail online storefront (login required). 

Campus buildings and exterior spaces will include signage, including directional signage signifying flow of movement and places to stand while waiting. Informational signage regarding other health and safety protocols, such as reminders about hand-washing and face coverings, will also be posted. These directions should be followed at all times. 

Entry to buildings will be regulated and monitored in alignment with American College Health Association (ACHA) guidance. The University will also ensure that signage and signage information is accessible, friendly and inclusive. The University will identify suitable building access points and traffic patterns.

In alignment with CDC and ACHA guidance, the University will remain cognizant of physical accessibility when making changes to indoor and outdoor spaces including the traffic flow of entrances and exits.

Buildings will feature signage signifying flow and offering physical distancing guidance, and informational signage regarding protocols.

All stairways or hallways will not be limited to one direction of travel.

Those using stairways, as in all indoor shared spaces, should wear a face covering at all times, and should not congregate in stairwells or hallways. Risk of exposure due to the limited interaction in these areas should be minimized if everyone stays to the right and keeps moving.

Signage will be installed to remind people to be conscious of the flow of traffic and expectations in our buildings.

In limited cases where there are adjacent entrances and stairways, such as the ELC downhill entrance, staircases may be separated by direction.

High-touch areas, surfaces and objects across campus will be disinfected with increased frequency using EPA-approved products, with a goal of twice-daily cleaning.

Examples of spaces to be disinfected include:

• Public/common spaces such as restrooms, lounges, lobbies and hallways
• Tables in common spaces
• Doorknobs
• Light switches
• Door handles
• Hand railings
• Bathroom stalls
• Sink handles
• Grab bars

Water fountains have been temporarily disabled to reduce risk. Water bottle filling stations will still be available.

Classrooms will be disinfected daily during routine cleaning.

• A wall-mounted hand sanitizer station will be installed in all classrooms and labs.
• Disinfecting supplies will be provided in all classrooms, labs and conference rooms, and occupants will be encouraged to clean desks and high-touch areas after each class/lab/meeting. 
• Adjustments to course scheduling have been made to permit greater time for necessary cleaning and transitions between classes.

Cleaning/disinfecting of private offices will be the responsibility of the occupant. Faculty and staff will be asked to take their trash to a receptacle in a common area or corridor.

Cleaning supplies, trash bags and PPE can be obtained by the department point of contact and will be distributed by the custodial section supervisor.

Custodians will disinfect toilets and toilet handles, urinals and urinal handles, sinks and sink faucets, paper/soap/feminine hygiene dispensers, floors, stall door handles, and restroom entrance handles and push plates.

The following protocols will apply:

• If possible, custodians will wait 72 hours before cleaning while increasing ventilation in the space (office, suite, floor[s] or building). If not feasible, the appropriate Facilities manager will consult with Environmental Health & Safety before custodial staff enters the space. 
• Outside doors and windows will be opened to increase air circulation in the area.
• All areas used by the person who is sick, such as offices, bathrooms and common areas, and shared electronic equipment such as tablets, touch screens, keyboards, remote controls and ATMs, will be cleaned and disinfected.
• The area will be vacuumed if needed using a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. The space will not be vacuumed if occupied. 
• Rooms and the central HVAC system that services the room or space may be temporarily turned off so that particles that escape from vacuuming will not circulate throughout the facility.
• If more than seven days have passed since the person who is sick visited or used the facility, additional cleaning and disinfection is not necessary.

• Facilities staff are evaluating all building HVAC systems to maximize ventilation in spaces as well as increase filtration to minimum efficiency reporting values (MERV). 
• Each building HVAC system is uniquely designed to meet the building's heating and cooling loads and specific ventilation requirements in an energy-efficient manner. Each air handler, duct system and terminal unit will be assessed as to whether increased filtration, additional ventilation or more air changes can be completed.
• Facilities staff will first evaluate classrooms and then move to ancillary spaces and buildings across campus.

• Commonly touched surfaces in University vehicles will be cleaned and disinfected between vehicle reservations. 
• The Events Management Transportation Services group will allow for a minimum of at least 45 minutes between reservations for vehicles to be properly cleaned. 
• Larger vehicles, such as vans and buses, will be allotted at least one hour between reservations. 
• Garage personnel will ensure that cleaning and disinfection procedures are followed consistently and correctly, including the provision of adequate ventilation when chemicals are in use. 
• Hard nonporous surfaces within the interior of the vehicle such as hard seats, arm rests, door handles, seat belt buckles, light and air controls, doors, windows and grab handles will be cleaned with detergent or soap and water if the surfaces are visibly dirty prior to disinfectant application. 
• For disinfection of hard, non-porous surfaces, appropriate disinfectants include:
  • Products on the EPA's list of registered disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. 
  • Alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol.
• Soft or porous surfaces such as fabric seats will be cleaned with appropriate cleaners indicated for use on these surfaces. Any visible contamination will be removed. 
• For frequently touched electronic surfaces, such as tablets or touch screens used in the vehicle, visible dirt will be removed, then the surface will be disinfected following the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and disinfection products. If no manufacturer guidance is available, alcohol-based wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol will be used.
• Gloves and any other disposable PPE used for cleaning and disinfecting the vehicle will be removed and disposed of after cleaning. Staff will be encouraged to wash hands immediately after removal of gloves and PPE with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water is not available.

Hand-sanitizing stations will be located at key areas within all campus buildings. Facilities will deactivate air hand dryers and install paper towel dispensers in restrooms.
