Move-in & Move-out

Bucknell's move-in and move-out procedures for the 2020-21 academic year will look and feel very different from previous years, and everyone's cooperation will be critical.

Please note: The information below pertains to the Fall 2020 semester. Updated policies for returning for the Spring 2021 semester will be added to this page once available.

Please review the following information carefully with your family.

Fall 2020 Move-out Process

The residence halls will close at noon on Saturday, Nov. 21. You may keep your belongings in your room over winter break unless you plan on switching to remote learning in the spring.

Process Summary

  1. If you need transportation to an airport or to the Northeast, sign up for a shuttle now.
  2. Pack everything you will need to take with you for the break, keeping in mind that an unexpected change in public health guidelines could delay your return to campus at the end of January. You will not be able to return to get belongings from your residence hall, and staff will not be available to retrieve and ship items to you. Please note that family members or other guests are not permitted in residence halls during move-out.
  3. Depart your room and lock the door.
  4. Place your key in a provided white envelope and drop it in at any dropbox location on campus. Envelopes will be provided at all dropboxes or may be obtained from your RA.
  5. Depart campus.

Detailed Move-out Instructions

Housing will collect room keys from all students and will redistribute them at move-in in January. After you lock your room, please turn in your key at any dropbox location or Public Safety before departing campus. Be sure to place your key in one of the provided white envelopes, which will be available at any dropbox location or from your RA. This applies to all students who are leaving for winter break and returning to campus in the spring.

We advise taking home items needed for a prolonged absence in case an unexpected change in public health guidelines delays our return to campus at the end of January. You will not be able to return to get belongings from your residence hall, and staff will not be available to retrieve and ship items to you.

Family members or other guests are not permitted in the residence halls during move-out. Please remember that all campus visitors must wear face coverings and practice social distancing.

If you need transportation to an airport or to the Northeast, please sign up for a shuttle now.

Students who wish to switch to remote learning before fall classes end may still do so by filling out the Fall 2020 Remote Intention form. After you submit the form, turn in your room key to Public Safety before departing campus and notify your professors that you have switched to remote learning.

Staying on Campus Over Break

If you have extenuating circumstances and need to stay on campus past Nov. 20, you may request to do so in myHOME. Please click "Winter Break Housing Request" on the blue bar at the top of the page and submit this form by Nov. 19. Your request will be reviewed and you will receive a response soon. Please be aware that campus services will be limited during break, and that travel and quarantine restrictions will remain in place.

Spring 2021 Move-in and COVID-19 Testing

Spring semester move-in will take place Jan. 29, 30 and 31. You will be asked to sign up for a move-in day over winter break. As in August, you will need two negative COVID-19 test results to be permitted to move in and/or attend in-person classes; the University will again provide you with test kits. Detailed information regarding both test kits and spring move-in will be shared at a later date.

Sequential COVID-19 testing will be available until Nov. 17. Please continue to schedule your tests approximately every 10 days until that time.

Getting to Campus

Airport shuttles will be available for transportation from regional airports to campus at the beginning of the semester. Arrival times will coincide with scheduled check-in times. Face coverings must be worn at all times on the shuttles. Please contact Student Transportation for details.
