Delaware Water Gap

Challenge Level: Light

 

No prior tubing, hiking or challenge course experience is required. We will teach you everything you need to know!

This BuckWild program takes place in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Located 75 minutes from campus on the border of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, this park cuts through the Appalachian Mountains. Your team will have the opportunity to tackle a few trails with the summits of Mt. Minsi and Mt. Tammany, tube down the Delaware River, explore the Lakota Wolf Preserve and experience the CLIMBucknell Challenge Course.

How to Prepare

Expedition Itinerary

The experience below is only an example. Trips are subject to change based on weather, local conditions and other circumstances.

Day 1

7 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Move in to the Residence Halls, eat breakfast and lunch on your own.

12:15 p.m. In a duffel bag, bring your equipment from the packing list to a storage area.

12:30 p.m. Meet with the associate dean, director of Outdoor Education & Leadership and BuckWild student trip leaders in the Weis Center.

1:30 p.m. Family good-byes.

1:45 p.m. Report to the Academic Quad to meet with your BuckWild student trip leaders.

2 p.m. Families meet with the president, provost and dean of students in the Weis Center.

2:30 p.m. Families depart campus or attend a social hour in the Weis Center Lobby until 3:30 p.m.

Day 2

Eat breakfast with your BuckWild group. Depart for the challenge course by 8:15 a.m. You'll participating in team-building exercises with at the challenge course most of the day. Leave by 3 p.m., then make dinner at camp.

Day 3

Drive to Mt. Tammany on route 80 to hike a 3.5-mile loop in the morning. Drive to Chamberlain Canoes and eat lunch, then go tubing. Head back to camp for the evening and make dinner.

Day 4

Start the day adventuring Bushkills Falls, arriving at Wolf Sanctuary at 2:15 for a 3 p.m. tour. Drive back to the camp for the evening and make dinner.

Day 5

Get an early start to hike Mt. Minsi, then drive back to Bucknell. Meet and engage with Bucknell professors in the afternoon at the Cowan Forest D. Brown Retreat Center. Enjoy food and festivities mid-evening. Go back to your residence hall to shower, then meet up for the Arts First Pre-orientation Program performance. Sleep in your residence hall.

Day 6

Eat breakfast at 8:15 a.m. in Larison Dining Hall. Your BuckWild trip leaders will talk about the New Student Orientation schedule and you'll watch a slideshow displaying each of BuckWild trip experience. New Student Orientation begins a little before lunch.
