Ricketts Glen State Park

No prior paddle-boarding, hiking or challenge course experience is required. We will teach you everything you need to know!

Ricketts Glen State Park is located an hour northeast of Bucknell's campus, and has more than 13,000 acres. One popular hike is a loop trail with 22 waterfalls within 3.2 miles — the highest waterfall stretching 94 feet. Your team will explore this trail and a few others, as well as canoe on the 245 acre Lake Jean and tackle the CLIMBucknell Challenge Course.

How to Prepare

Expedition Itinerary

The experience below is only an example. Trips are subject to change based on weather, local conditions and other circumstances.

Day 1

7 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Move in to the Residence Halls, eat breakfast and lunch on your own.

12:15 p.m. In a duffel bag, bring your equipment from the packing list to a storage area.

12:30 p.m. Meet with the associate dean, director of Outdoor Education & Leadership and BuckWild student trip leaders in the Weis Center.

1:30 p.m. Family good-byes.

1:45 p.m. Report to the Academic Quad to meet with your BuckWild student trip leaders.

2 p.m. Families meet with the president, provost and dean of students in the Weis Center.

2:30 p.m. Families depart campus or attend a social hour in the Weis Center Lobby until 3:30 p.m.

Day 2

Wake up, pack up equipment and depart campus! Hike the waterfall loop, 5-8 miles. Set up basecamp. Enjoy fun activities prepared by BuckWild trip leaders.

Day 3

Wake up and enjoy breakfast. Paddleboard on Lake Jean. If you're lucky, you'll get to see some awesome wildlife! Enjoy fun activities prepared by BuckWild trip leaders.

Day 4

Wake up and enjoy breakfast. Complete the CLIMBucknell Challenge Course at the Cowan Forest D. Brown Retreat Center, featuring low ropes, problem-solving activities, a climbing tower, zip-lining, and other high ropes elements. Enjoy fun activities prepared by BuckWild trip leaders.

Day 5

Wake up, break down camp and depart. Meet and engage with Bucknell professors in the afternoon at the Cowan Forest D. Brown Retreat Center. Enjoy food and festivities mid-evening. Go back to your residence hall to shower, then meet up for the Arts First Pre-orientation Program performance. Sleep in your residence hall.

Day 6

Eat breakfast at 8:15 a.m. in Larison Dining Hall. Your BuckWild trip leaders will talk about the New Student Orientation schedule and you'll watch a slideshow displaying each of BuckWild trip experience. New Student Orientation begins a little before lunch.
