LEWISBURG, Pa. — Pianist Sezi Seskir will give a concert Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Weis Center for the Performing Arts at Bucknell University.
The concert will inaugurate a new grand piano in the lobby. Seskir will perform works by Bach, Scarlatti, Beethoven and Chopin. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by an elegant dessert reception.
The beautifully restored Steinway & Sons 1920 Model Long A Grand Piano was donated by Robert S. and Sara Matthews Neumann, both members of the Bucknell Class of 1963, in honor of their 50th Reunion and 50th wedding anniversary. It will reside in the Weis Center's Lobby permanently.
A member of the Bucknell music faculty, Seskir received her first degree in piano in her native Ankara, Turkey. She went on with her studies in Lübeck Musikhochschule in Germany with Prof. Konstanze Eickhorst, where in 2005 she completed degrees both in artistic and pedagogical piano.
Along with many solo recitals in Europe, the United States and Turkey, she also performed with various orchestras as a soloist. Seskir completed her D.M.A. degree with Malcolm Bilson at Cornell University.
Seskir, whose research focuses on the use of tempo rubato in Robert Schumann's keyboard music, has given numerous lecture-recitals at schools such as Princeton University, Trinity College of London, UC Berkeley, and Stanford. She is editing Schumann's Op. 18 &19 piano works for the Schumann complete edition.
