Since 1999, Bucknell students, faculty, staff and alumni have made dozens of trips to Nicaragua, where they built a medical clinic for the impoverished citizens of Nueva Vida. Twenty students along with Profs. Kim Daubman, John Rickard and Paul Susman and a staff member and local physician, spent a week of the holiday break working at the clinic. Several students with an interest in the health field shadowed the doctor during patient visits. Others in the group worked in the pharmacy and spruced up the building and grounds by washing screens, painting, raking and helping to remove a huge tree. Four lecturers from local NGOs spoke about Nicaraguan history and politics. The travelers rounded out their adventure by visiting El Porvenir and Managua, and hiking a volcano.
