BestValueSchools has ranked the Weis Center third on its list of 25 Most Amazing University Performing Arts Centers in recognition of its mix of programming and community engagement.

"Many centers contain multiple theaters, classrooms, and recital halls that enhance a student's performing arts education and offer students and the public access to a variety of exceptional events," writes BestValueSchools. The top 25 were chosen "for their enduring commitment to arts education as well as their desire to provide exceptional arts programming to the public."

"We're humbled and deeply honored to be recognized on a national level," said Kathryn Maguet, executive director of the Weis Center. "Over the last few years the Weis Center staff has been working very hard to improve and expand the scope of our programs. And we've only just begun!"

The Weis Center performance hall features striking architecture and exceptional acoustics, and has hosted performances and talks by world-renowned artists since 1988, including singer-songwriter John Legend, poet Rita Dove, author Neil Gaiman and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.

It also serves as a primary venue for Bucknell's music and theatre & dance departments, and is the host of the University's annual Commencement Concert. | Follow the Weis Center on Facebook and Twitter.

Weis Center events are not confined to the 1,200-seat auditorium. In conjunction with their performances, many artists perform a variety of residency activities on and off campus, including coaching students individually or in small groups; facilitating classes; leading pre-performance talks, workshops and demonstrations; and conducting "flash concerts" in community locations.

The Weis Center offers more than 30 professional performances each year, including world music, jazz, blues, bluegrass, modern dance, classical and a Family Discovery Series.
