The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Bucknell University will host two educational events for entrepreneurs and small business owners in October.

The workshop, "QuickBooks: the Basics", will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the SBDC education center, located on the third floor of the DeWitt Building, 416 Market St. in Lewisburg.

The workshop will include a discussion of system requirements, choosing the appropriate version of QuickBooks, general navigation, setting up your company, setting up the chart of accounts, setting up vendors and customers, company preferences, creating transactions, entering bills/paying bills, and reconciling bank accounts.

Diana Dorman-Patton, a seminar instructor and small business QuickBooks consultant with more than 20 years' QuickBooks training experience, will lead the workshop. An independent consultant to small business clients, she trained under Real World Training for QuickBooks and is a Certified QuickBooks Pro instructor.

Registration is required as seating is limited. The registration fee is $75. Veterans are welcome to attend at no cost. Attendees are encouraged to bring personal computers. Handouts will be provided.

Global Entrepreneurship Week
The SBDC and Bucknell have begun preparations for the celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week in November. This event is the world's largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. Bucknell will celebrate GEW with the Business Pitch Competition; a "Shark Tank" style event featuring the best, brightest, and most driven entrepreneurs on campus. To learn more about the Business Pitch Competition, or "#BizPitch14", visit www.bucknell.edu/bizpitch

Ahead of that competition, individuals from the community are invited to come to Tech Meetup Lewisburg to learn of preparations for #BizPitch14, and to join in the celebration of startup culture of the region. Attendees will hear "business pitches" from entrepreneurs from this region and network with members of the Bucknell University Entrepreneurs Incubator.

Part of a monthly series of events, the next Tech Meetup Lewisburg will held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Bucknell University Entrepreneurs Incubator, located on the second floor of the DeWitt Building, 416 Market St. in Lewisburg. There is no fee for this event; a light lunch will be provided.

To become a member of Tech Meetup Lewisburg, and to RSVP to the 10/28 event, visit www.meetup.com/Tech-Meetup-Lewisburg/
