The second annualZombie OutRun 5K Chase Race will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m.
The race leaves from Hufnagle Park, with runners aiming to outrun zombies throughout Lewisburg. Runners will be sent out in waves starting at approximately 3 p.m. Runners will be contacted with details after registering and given a start time. Zombies also will be contacted before the event about their zombification (make up) time.
Participants can run the race individually or in a team with a flag football belt around their waists. Runners who make it to the finish line with even one of their flags have survived the horde.
Prefer to be a zombie? Put together a costume and race organizers will be on hand to make-up your face and give zombie lessons. Prizes will be awarded for the best zombie as well as fastest survivors — individuals, teams, and veterans.
Runners will receive a Zombie Run T-shirt, and zombies will receive a commemorative button and be eligible for zombie prizes.
Registration fees are: individual runners, $22; team of two to five runners, $17 each person; zombies, $5. Register online or find more information on Facebook.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Lewisburg Community Garden, a joint project between the borough of Lewisburg and Bucknell University. It features 40 rental plots and an 8,500 square-foot communal plot. Food cultivated and harvested on the communal plot is donated to local food access programs and helps to feed individuals in Union and Northumberland counties.
Kevin Zuidervliet, Bucknell's AmeriCorps VISTA Food Access Coordinator, helps to manage the Lewisburg Community Garden. "Events such as the Zombie Run help raise the necessary funds that keep the garden going. It is great to see the community come together to raise money for an important cause, while also taking part in such a fun event," he said.
