Fourteen members of the Bucknell faculty are beginning their first academic year as full professors, joining other colleagues who have reached the pinnacle of their fields.

All of the new full professors have established exemplary records of outstanding teaching, scholarship and service. As they have developed into seasoned educators and mentors, they have brought the University deep knowledge in topics ranging from the flow of granular materials to the impact of scientific literacy on politics.

"Attaining the rank of full professor represents a defining achievement for a faculty member. It is the recognition of a sustained record of excellence in teaching, extensive scholarship, and service to the University and community at large," said Robert Midkiff, interim provost. "These professors are our exemplars — the models we hope will inspire newer faculty and students. The faculty promoted to full professor this year have transformed the lives of countless students, advanced their disciplines and participated fully in the life of the University, ensuring a bright future for Bucknell."

This is the first of a three-part series of faculty profiles. Next week, meet Bucknell's newly tenured professors. || See all faculty stories
