Travel along with Bucknell students as they explore the history and culture of South Africa.

Many American travelers would consider visiting South Africa a wonderful opportunity, if only to see iconic sights like Table Mountain. For students who join the Bucknell in South Africa service-learning trip, that experience is deepened by the chance to work with social services agencies in Cape Town.

The students, who can earn a credit in economics or management, also study how South Africa is addressing the legacy of apartheid through social entrepreneurship and community development. And, of course, they explore the country's beautiful and varied landscape.

For participant Effiem Obasi '20, who was paired with an organization combating the AIDS epidemic, the program was "an eye-opening and transformative experience."

Obasi, a psychology major from Los Angeles, added, "It wasn't that we were just giving something to them. There was a lot we were learning from the people."
